| We have two different combo bird hunts; |
|||||||||||||||
| Type one is mostly Bob White Quail over dogs, ours or yours, expect to see 10 plus coveys a day of all wild birds. You may also encounter blue scale quail on this hunt which you must walk up as they run the minute the dog gets within 50 yards. And they are the toughest upland bird in the world in my opinion, and you are more than welcome to shoot them too. Then there are some ducks, as we hunt in the desert, near small pond or lakes, a good bag is 5 to 10 ducks per person, and we have 15 different species. We also get some San Hill Crane as well, and we may decide to try our hand at them, but they are awful wise and you must get up early hide perfectly and shoot real good if you are to bag one. We have doves too, but mostly Mourning doves and sometimes we hunt the last hour in the afternoon until dark, with shooting for 10 to 20 usually. The weather can have a lot to do on combo bird hunts, as too hot or too rainy and you cut your bag greatly. The good news is that most of Feb. is mild 60 to 75 degrees and the sun is shining, and the hunting is great. The cost on the combo mostly wild Bob White Quail hunt is for 4 days and 3 nights, with 6 sessions of hunting, and is $2000 everything included with $350 worth of licensees, as we prefer the use of our Shotguns, as it cost about $300 per hunter to bring yours in, and we need at least 4 in a group to do this hunt and no more than 8 Hunters. |

| Combo Hunt number 2 is Mostly Blue Scale Quail, the "runners" and you must walk roads and bush, and cactus and kick them up, and they are the toughest wild birds in the world to hunt, with some excellent hunters who engage seeing 10 coveys a day bagging only 3 to 5. Most years I will bet that if we ride around on our 20,000 plus combined acres that I can show you 20 or more coveys of wild Blues, and the best Hunter usually cannot bag more than 15 a day. Dogs are a hindrance to hunt Blues, but we have Labradors as retrievers who walk along with the bird boy on a leash, and are released after the first shot is fired, and sent to find wounded and crippled birds. Everything is the same on ducks and doves as above but there are no San Hills in the Blue Quail properties. We will take two or more hunters on this hunt but prefer to have 4 to 12 at a time, and the cost including the $350 licensee is $1500 per hunter, with the same 4 days and 3 nights or six session of hunting. You can bag a Javillina, the Pig like animal of the desert, or bag a Wild Boar, or hunt Varmints as well, but you must buy a license to do so which are $100 each species. |
